Danzan Ravjaa was the most talented man of 19th century. He was known as a poet, a painter, and a playwright as well. He founded the first Mongolia’s theatre in 1832 in present Dornogovi aimag. His actors used to perform his plays in masks. Before the performance, Ravjaa trained actors because there were no professional actors at that time in Mongolia. The theatre itself was open air and could fit a large audience. A lot of people used to come to see his plays because they were about the life of common people. The theatre also moved around to perform the plays. It was destroyed in 1938 and was never rebuilt. Saran Khukhoo was the most well-known play performed in the theatre and it was recently re-staged in the present Drama theatre.
